Sorghum Lagers of Uganda in East Africa
ABV 5.7% | SRM 6 | IBU 20
Kampala Special is inspired by the ancient brews and modern lagers of East Africa, where sorghum is used as a fermentable. We worked with Nu Life Market in Western Kansas, who grows sorghum to be carbon negative to the environment. Combined with Pilsner malt from Admiral Maltings, it gives this beer a fuller body and smooth finish.
We fermented for a month at a superbly cold temperature, conditioned for a month, and carbonated naturally – all making for a wonderfully clean lager. Saaz hops were sourced from Elk Mountain Farms in Northern Idaho. These give balance and a slight spiciness, yielding a dry and crisp finish.
